Alliant International University

 

Alliant International University, a private not-for-profit accredited institution, prepares students for professional careers of service and leadership in psychology, education, business, law and forensics. Alliant is committed to the discovery and application of knowledge to improve the lives of people in diverse communities around the world. Alliant was formed on July 1, 2001 by the combination of two legacy institutions: The California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) and United States International University (USIU). It offers programs in six California campuses (San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Irvine, Sacramento and Fresno) and three international campuses in (Mexico City, Tokyo and Hong Kong). Its enrollment is approximately 4000 students, of whom 95% are post-graduate.

 

Alliant’s California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) has trained nearly half of the practicing psychologists in California.

Alliant students hail from 39 states and more than 75 countries.

International students are not eligible for federal financial aid; however, they may qualify for scholarships or grants at the San Diego or Irvine campuses.  

 

Requirements for International Students

English Proficiency

Any graduate applicant who has not been residing in the US or an English-speaking country since the age of 13 must submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) from the Educational Testing Service (ETS), even if the applicant is now a United States citizen or permanent resident.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test of Written English (TWE) may be required for non-native speakers. Students whose native language is not English or who have not earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited U.S. higher education institution are required to show English proficiency by taking the TOEFL.
Alliant International University requires a minimum TOEFL score of 80 for the internet based test, a score of 213 for the computer based test or a score of 550 for the paper based test. Alliant also requires a minimum score of 5 or higher on the TWE, if required.

Alliant will accept IELTS scores of 6.0 or above, or another approved test of English proficiency with scores equivalent to the TOEFL score minimums.

The Alliant School of Management (ASM) provides students with the opportunity to gain real-world management experience – both locally and internationally - through consulting assignments, internships, professional development and community service.  Its graduates have gone on to become successful business leaders in over 100 countries. Located in San Diego and in Mexico City, ASM offers a truly international campus environment that promotes diversity and inclusion and prepares students for the global marketplace.

The California School of Forensic Studies (CSFS) is at the forefront of pioneering and expanding the traditional definitions of forensics and forensic studies. CSFS specializes in training professionals to become culturally competent practitioners who possess broad-based knowledge of how the practice of criminology intersects with the systems linked to the field of criminal justice. At the core of CSFS' programs is the master's in Applied Criminology. A bachelor's in Criminal Justice Systems is also offered.

The California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) offers graduate programs in Clinical Psychology, Couple and Family Therapy, Organizational Psychology, Clinical Counseling and Clinical Psychopharmacology, with campuses throughout California and international programs in Hong Kong, Tokyo  and Mexico. CSPP is a leader in emphasizing applied training in the behavioral sciences. All programs provide extensive field training that prepares students to work with diverse client groups in diverse settings.

The Hufstedler School of Education (HSOE) gives educators the skills they need to truly make a difference, preparing them to teach, lead, and counsel in one of the most diverse educational environments in the country. Named for the first United States Secretary of Education, HSOE offers a variety of degree and credential programs: TeachersCHOICE teaching programs, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and the California Teachers of English Learners’ Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development  (CLAD) certificate programs, programs in Educational Leadership and in Educational and School Psychology.

The San Francisco Law School (SFLS) pioneered the first evening law program in the Western United States and was among the first law schools to actively recruit women. SFLS continues to focus on students who may not have opportunities for traditional legal education. Graduates of SFLS have distinguished themselves in leadership positions in governmental/policy and legislative positions, in the judiciary, in public service as district attorneys and public defenders, and as established California attorneys in private practice.

Bachelor's Programs at Alliant

Alliant International University offers bachelor's degree programs at its San Diego and Mexico City campuses, with opportunities to study abroad between the two campuses. Alliant is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Students benefit from the accessible and experienced Alliant faculty, professional development opportunities and a vibrant international campus community.

San Diego

At Alliant's San Diego campus in the Scripps Ranch neighborhood, students can major in business, child development, criminal justice systems or psychology. We offer competitive scholarship options, no "impacted" majors and fall, spring and summer term admission. Many students choose Alliant because they can complete their degree within the expected time frame, without sacrificing the quality of their education. Our curriculum follows California standards for general education, which means that credits from community colleges or California State University branches will seamlessly transfer into Alliant.

Mexico City

Alliant International University is the only U.S. accredited university in Mexico City offering bachelor's through master's degrees. Alliant’s Mexico City Campus is located in the Zona Rosa, near the heart of the city and close to U.S. Embassy. Alliant students have an option of either completing their entire degree at the Mexico City campus or participating in an exciting semester abroad program that further complements their international and multicultural study experience at Alliant.
