Ferris State University (FSU, Ferris) is an American public university with its main campus in Big Rapids, Michigan. Founded in 1884
The university has 8 colleges offering more than 170 educational programs — Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Services, Engineering Technology, Health Professions, the Kendall College of Art and Design, Michigan College of Optometry, and Pharmacy. Program offerings lead to bachelor's and associate degrees and certificates. Master's degrees in Information Security and Intelligence, Career and Technical Education, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, Nursing, and Fine Arts are available. Ferris also offers doctoral degrees in Optometry, Pharmacy, and Community College Leadership.
Kendall College of Art and Design offers graduate and undergraduate fine arts degrees as well as a B.S. degree in Art History. Kendall’s campus is in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Michigan College of Optometry is one of 16 schools or colleges of optometry in the United States and the only college of optometry in Michigan. MCO doctors and student interns deliver eye-care to patients in the region. Graduates receive a Doctor of Optometry degree.
The College of Pharmacy graduates comprise more than half of Michigan’s practicing pharmacists. Graduates receive a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
The College of Business offers several programs in Business Administration including Supply Chain Management and Maritime Studies.[23]

Our main campus is located in Big Rapids, Michigan – a naturally beautiful area of the state. The Big Rapids campus is 50 miles north of Grand Rapids, Michigan's second largest city. Ferris is just a four-hour drive from Chicago and only three hours from Detroit.
English Proficiency Policies
You must establish English language proficiency to enter an academic program. You can request that an official score report be delivered directly from the testing organization to Ferris. The list of accepted tests and scores along with our English proficiency policies can be found below.
- TOEFL Score of 61 or better on Internet based test (70 for Graduate Level)
- IELTS score of 5.5 or better (6.5 for Graduate Level)
- MELAB score of 72 or better
- MSUELT score of 73 or better
- SAT (verbal section) score of 450 or better
- ACT (reading section) score of 18 or better
- ELS completion of level 112 with C or better (for undergraduate admissions)
We reserve the right to request that students take an additional English placement test
upon arrival if English skills do not appear to equal the submitted test scores.
If you have not taken an official test, you can take a proficiency exam when you arrive at Ferris. If you pass the test, you can begin studying in your program. If you do not pass the exam, you can enroll in the West Michigan Intensive English Language Institute to improve your English language skills
